About Our Program

Coburn Early Childhood is an integrated early childhood program serving children with and without disabilities. The program offers a language-based, multi-sensory approach to learning. The Early Childhood Program follows the West Springfield Public Schools calendar for vacations and holidays.

Morning Session: 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM (Monday - Thursday)

Afternoon Session: 12:45 PM – 3:15 PM (Monday - Thursday)

Age Range and Eligibility

Our classrooms are integrated with peer partners and children with special needs. Peer partners must be toilet trained and should be 3 or 4 years old by September 1 to be considered. Priority is given to children age 4+ who are eligible to attend kindergarten the following year. Once all available slots are full, remaining applicants will be placed on a waitlist and contacted as space becomes available. All enrolled peer partners must attend a developmental screening. Children with identified disabilities are eligible for placement at 3 years of age if recommended by the Special Education EvaluationTeam.

Screening

After applying, a screening will be conducted in person. The purpose of this screening is to complete a short evaluation (about 20 minutes) to determine if your child is appropriate for a peer slot in one of our Early Childhood inclusion classrooms.

Tuition

There are no tuition fees to attend the West Springfield Early Childhood program.

Enrollment

To be accepted into the program an application needs to be completed and submitted for review and a screening needs to be conducted. Once your child has been accepted, families will receive a letter in the mail with a code to complete our district registration form, which can be completed online (www.wsps.org/enrollment) or in-person at the Central Enrollment Office located at Central Office at 11 Central Street in West Springfield. To register in-person we recommend scheduling an appointment in advance with the Central Enrollment Office. If your child is not accepted into the program, families will receive a letter in the mail.
